Parliamentary staff have been urged to embrace a culture of physical and mental wellness to enhance productivity and overall performance at work.

Speaking this Friday during the official launch of the Parliamentary Sports event at Ulinzi Sports Complex, the Clerk of the Senate and Secretary to the Parliamentary Service Commission, Mr. Jeremiah Nyegenye, highlighted the importance of fitness and emotional well-being in the workplace.

β€œWe want to entrench a culture of physical and mental wellness among Parliamentary staff,” said Mr Nyegenye.

He noted that the sports initiative aims to strengthen working relationships and promote professionalism among employees, enabling them to serve the nation effectively.

Β 

β€œThe objective of this sporting event is to build unity, nurture teamwork and foster collaboration for excellent results,” he added.

Β 

Mr. Nyegenye commended the Parliamentary Service Commission, chaired by the Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang`ula for facilitating the event and lauded Parliamentary management and the Bunge Sports Committee for their planning and organisation.

He also praised staff for their enthusiasm and participation, urging them to compete in a healthy manner and use the event to build a sense of family within the institution.

β€œA family that plays together stays together,” he remarked.

Clerk of the National Assembly, Mr. Samuel Njoroge echoed the sentiments, applauding staff for making the sports event a success.

He expressed delight at the turnout, encouraging participants to engage in friendly competition.

Β 

β€œIt is exciting to see all Parliamentary staff here, regardless of the Service. We have put aside our titles and positions to compete in a healthy and friendly manner,” said Mr. Njoroge.

He urged employees to embrace unity and apply the team spirit cultivated through sports in their day-to-day duties.

β€œSport is the only activity in the world that unites people,” he emphasised.

Β 

Director General of Parliamentary Joint Services, Mr. Clement Nyandiere, also encouraged staff to fully participate and enjoy the games in a spirited and friendly atmosphere.

Β 

The two-day Parliamentary Sports event features a wide range of disciplines, including football, volleyball, netball, basketball, badminton, table tennis, darts, athletics, tug of war, pool, swimming, scrabble and chess.

Β 

Staff have been grouped into four teams, White and Black, led by Mr. Nyegenye, Red, led by Mr. Njoroge and Gold, led by Mr. Nyandiere.
