The Senate has been formally notified of a change in the Office of the Senate Majority Whip, following a decision by the Majority Party communicated to Speaker Amason Kingi.

Β

In a communication to Senators, Speaker Kingi announced that he had received a letter dated 2nd December 2025 from the Senate Majority Leader, Senator Aaron Cheruiyot (Kericho) outlining alterations in the party’s leadership structure. The correspondence was accompanied by minutes of the Majority Party meeting held on the same date, as well as a duly signed list of Senators who attended the session.

Β

According to the minutes, the Majority Party resolved to remove Senator Boni Khalwale(Kakamega) from his position as Senate Majority Whip, in line with Standing Order 22(5), which allows for the removal of a party-elected senator through the majority vote of party members. The meeting further endorsed Senator David Wafula Wakoli (Bungoma) as the new Senate Majority Whip.

Β

Speaker Kingi noted that Standing Order 22(8) requires him to verify such correspondence and communicate the decision to the House within three sitting days. He confirmed that the verification process had been completed and formally communicated that the change had taken effect.
