Ms Consolata Nabwire Wakwabubi has been sworn in as Senator, taking over from Ms Gloria Orwoba who was expelled from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) which had nominated her.
Β
Ms Orwoba lost her seat in the House after UDA accused her of disloyalty and expelled her.
Her expulsion led to the nomination of Ms Wakwabubi, who was the next on the party nomination list.
On Wednesday, Speaker Amason Kingi presided over the swearing in ceremony, even as he congratulated the new Senator for her election and welcomed her to the Senate.
Senator Nabwire was escorted to the chair by Senator Veronica Maina and Senator Raphael Chimera, both of UDA.
Β
Senator Chimera introduced the new lawmaker to the Speaker, who went on to preside over the ceremony.
βI Consolata Nabwire Wakwabubi having been elected a member of the Senate, do swear in the name of Almighty God that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the people and the Republic of Kenya. That I will obey, respect, uphold, preserve, protect and defend the constitution of the Republic of Kenya and that I will faithfully and conscientiously discharge the duties of a member of Parliament. So help me God.β
