PIC ON COMMERCIAL AFFAIRS AND ENERGY TASKS WATER AUTHORITY TO EXPLAIN THE OVER-CONSTITUTION OF BOARD

Public Investments Committee on Commercial Affairs and Energy chaired by Hon. David Pkosing (Pokot South) wants the National Water Harvesting and Storage Authority (NWHSA) to explain why it had 12 Directors instead of the 10 allowed and provided for in the Water Act.

The Authority officials led by the Acting Chief Executive Officer Eng. John Muhia appeared before the Committee to respond to queries arising from the Auditor General's Financial Statements for the Financial Years 2018/2019 to 2020/2021.

DECENTRALISED FUNDS COMMITTEE INSPECTS LURAMBI NG-CDF OFFICES

The Decentralised Funds Accounts Committee led by the Vice-Chairperson Hon. Gertrude Mbeyu (Kilifi County) conducted an inspection visit of the stalled Lurambi National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) office block in Lurambi Constituency, Kakamega County.

Before visiting the stalled project in Kakamega town, the Committee paid a courtesy call to the Kakamega Governor, Hon. Fernandes Barasa. Governor Barasa commended the legislators for their oversight role and urged them to be steadfast in ensuring that public funds are not misappropriated.

The County Public Accounts Committee (CPAC) has directed the directed the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to investigate how Migori County Government transferred Sh78million to the County Assembly and how the funds were utilized.

The directive was issued by the committee chairman Moses Kajwang failed to account how the funds were utilised.

The committee wants the Governor to provide evidence how County Assembly spent more than 13 per cent of the County’s revenue for the financial year ended June 2020.

Weaknesses in the law and Kenya’s democratic credential have been cited as the reason why the State has failed to reign in religious groups that run afoul of the law.

Attorney General Justin Muturi told a Committee of the Senate on Wednesday May, 10th 2023, that Societies Act, which regulates the sector is old and mundane, pleading with Parliament to work with the executive to fast track the law.

During the last few weeks, the National Assembly’s Committee on Agriculture and Livestock has held public participation on the Sugar Bill, 2022 under the chairmanship of Hon.Dr. John Mutunga.

Mr. David Okoth, General Manager and other representatives of Sukari Industries and cane farmers engaged with Committee Members in Kanyikela area of Ndhiwa Constituency, Homabay County.

The General Manager, Mr. David Okoth submitted that Sukari Industries sought the reinstatement of the Sugar Board whose composition should be inclusive of both private and public millers.
