President William Ruto has urged Parliament to develop legislation to actualize the two-thirds gender rule.

Speaking during his third State of the Nation Address before a Joint Sitting of the National Assembly and the Senate, President Ruto called on legislators to take decisive steps toward implementing this constitutional requirement.

National Assembly Speaker Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Moses Wetang’ula has bid farewell to H.E. Ambassador Zhou Pingjian, the outgoing Chinese Ambassador to Kenya, following a successful four-year tenure.

The farewell took place during a courtesy visit by Ambassador Zhou to Wetang’ula’s on Wednesday evening at Parliament Buildings.

The National Assembly has passed the Statute Law (Miscellaneous Amendments) Bill, National Assembly Bill No. 67 of 2023 with far-reaching amendments to the Copyright Act, 2001 and Scrap Metal Act, 2015.  

Among the amendments to the Copyright Act, 2001 was the deletion of proposed Section 30A, which sought to regulate equitable remuneration for performers and producers of sound recordings on a 50-50 basis. Lawmakers argued that the formula excluded other contributors to the creative process, leading to its removal.

The Mediation Committee on the Division of Revenue (Amendment) Bill, 2024 has unanimously agreed to allocate Ksh. 387 billion to County Governments. The decision came after extensive deliberations over three days, following earlier meetings that failed to reach a consensus.

The Committee, co-chaired by Mandera Senator Ali Roba and Kiharu MP Hon. Ndindi Nyoro, announced the agreement as a balance between the fiscal constraints of the National Government and the operational demands of the Counties.

Members of the National Assembly have put too task the Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock over the continuous use of carcinogenic pesticides in the Country.

CS, Andrew Karanja had appeared before the National Assembly to answer to Members questions in line with the House Standing order 42(A) (6B).
