PUBLIC INVESTMENTS COMMITTEE ON GOVERNANCE AND EDUCATION MEETS KICD AND UNES OVER AUDIT QUERIES

The National Assembly's Public Investments Committee on Governance and Education chaired by Hon. Jack Wamboka met with officials from the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development(KICD) and the University of Enterprises Nairobi and Services Limited (UNES) to discuss audit queries raised in the Auditor General's Report. financial statements.

Officials of the KICD led by the Chief Executive Officer Mr. Charles Ongondo were the first to appear before the Committee. Members required the officials to provide answers to questions arising from the construction of Phase One of the Education Resource Centre (ERC) at the KICD, whether the contractor has since renewed the performance bond as directed, and give analysis of the remaining works and their cost.

 In his submission, Mr. Ongondo told the Committee that, “the lead consultant; Maestro Architects and Consultants has given a projection of the remaining works to the completion of phase one of the building to be Kshs999,618, 616.50,” 

UNES officials led by Managing Director Mr. Seith Abeka, were the next to appear before the Committee. They were required to address doubts raised by the Auditor General on the sustainability of their activities over the last five Financial Years from 2017/2018 to 2022/2023 despite making losses and big differences between their current assets and liabilities.

In his response, Mr. Abeka told the Committee that there has been a progressive growth in their revenue generation over the mentioned financial years. “It should be noted that the profitability has drastically improved in the last three years from FY 2019/2020 to FY 2021/2022. This is a strong indicator of the company’s turnaround strategies that are placing the company on an upward trajectory,” Mr Abeka said.
