Members have raised concerns over the doctorโs strike, which has gone on for several weeks, causing disruptions in healthcare services across the country.
The legislators emphasized the importance of prioritizing negotiation with the medics to enable Kenyans to have access to healthcare and also prevent loss of life.
According to the Members, health is a devolved function and therefore Governors should closely engage with the National Government and other relevant stakeholders in seeking a solution, ending the strike and ensuring doctors get back to work.
The striking medics are advocating for improved working conditions, absorption of medical interns into the workforce, and implementation of the 2017 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) among other issues.
Leader of the Majority Party, Hon. Kimani Ichungโwah called upon the striking doctors not to focus on street protests but instead embrace dialogue with the Government for a lasting solution to the perennial strikes.
