LEADER OF MAJORITY PARTY WARNS COMMITTEE CHAIRPERSONS AGAINST MISSING HOUSE SESSIONS

The Leader of the Majority Party, Hon. Kimani Ichung’wah, has issued a warning to House Committees’ Chairpersons and Vice-Chairpersons, stating that they could be removed from their positions if they continue to skip House sittings where critical communication is made.

Hon. Ichung’wah expressed concern that chairpersons of Committees are often absent from the House when their reports were being debated.

“If the Chairperson of a committee is not in the House, the bare minimum is that the Vice-Chairperson must be in the House at the time the House rises,” said Hon. Ichung’wah.

The National Assembly is a budget-making House and Hon. Ichung’wah urged Chairpersons, especially those of Departmental Committees, to attend House sessions and participate fully in processing the Budget Estimates.

Hon. Ichung’wah also asked the Chairpersons to make themselves available during the working recess to meet with their respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) and engage with the Budget and Appropriation Committee.

Speaker Hon. (Dr) Moses Wetang’ula supported Hon. Ichung’wah’s remarks and called on Chairpersons and Vice-Chairpersons of Committees to attend plenary to prosecute issues on behalf of their electorates.
