Speakers Rt. (Dr.) Moses Wetang’ula and the Rt. Hon. Amason Kingi have hosted the Muslim MPs and staff for an Iftar dinner that marked the breaking of the fast during this holy month of Ramadhan.

Speaking during the event on Thursday, the leaders assured the congregate that prayer was the gateway to a peaceful living.

Parliament of Kenya has today played host to the Secretary General of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), Mr. Wamkele Mene, who is in the country on an official visit. 

 

The Secretary-General was received by the Senate Deputy Speaker Sen. Kathuri Murungi flanked by the Senate Majority Leader Sen. Aaron Cheruiyot who appreciated the AfCFTA efforts in facilitating trade among the African states.

The Senate Committee on Justice, Legal Affairs, and Human Rights, under the leadership of Bomet Senator Wakili Hillary Sigei, convened today to host a delegation from the Committee of Murang’a County on Governance, Labour, Justice, and Legal Affairs, headed by Jeremiah Gichobe Mbatia. This visit marks an important benchmarking opportunity, as the Murang’a delegation seeks to enhance its understanding of the Senate's functions, particularly in oversight, and to exchange insights and best practices.

The Senate played host to a delegation from the Makueni County Assembly Business Committee Wednesday, as they sought to benchmark the Senate's accomplishments in its tripartite role of legislation, representation and oversight.

The delegation was received by Member of the Speaker’s Panel, Sen. Abdul Haji flanked by Makueni Senator, Dan Maanzo who apprised the team of the Bills that are currently before the House and explored areas of collaboration between the Senate and the County Assembly.

Today, the Senate Committee on Justice, Legal Affairs, and Human Rights, chaired by Bomet Senator Wakili Hillary Sigei, convened to consider a legislative proposal sponsored by Nyamira Senator Okong'o Omogeni. The proposal aims to amend section 81(3) of the Advocate's Act, Cap 221, extending the exemption from continuing legal education to Senators and the Speaker of the Senate who hold a practicing certificate.
