During the last few weeks, the National Assembly’s Committee on Agriculture and Livestock has held public participation on the Sugar Bill, 2022 under the chairmanship of Hon.Dr. John Mutunga.

Mr. David Okoth, General Manager and other representatives of Sukari Industries and cane farmers engaged with Committee Members in Kanyikela area of Ndhiwa Constituency, Homabay County.

The General Manager, Mr. David Okoth submitted that Sukari Industries sought the reinstatement of the Sugar Board whose composition should be inclusive of both private and public millers.

The Senate Standing Committee on Land, Environment and Natural Resources chaired by Nyandarua County Senator John Methu today met with Petitioners to deliberate on the Petition concerning degazettement of Land Reference No. 12493, situated in the West of Rumuruti Township, Laikipia County.

The National Assembly Public Investments Committee on Commercial Affairs and Energy met with top officials of the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) who appeared before the Committee to answer queries arising from reports of the Auditor General on their Financial Statements for the Financials Years 2019/2020-2020/2021.

The Committee chaired by Hon. David Pkosing (Pokot South), asked Dr. Erastus Kanga, the KWS Acting Director General to explain why there was a variance in park entry turnover, revenue collected, and an unsupported expenditure on wildlife compensation.

LABOUR COMMITTEE VISIT NATIONAL INDUSTRIAL TRAINING AUTHORITY (NITA).

The National Assembly Committee on Labour conducted a site visit of the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) to ascertain its preparedness and that of other Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Institutions in training individuals for the job market. This follows the proposal by the Government for Kenyans to seek jobs abroad. 

LEADER OF MAJORITY PARTY WARNS COMMITTEE CHAIRPERSONS AGAINST MISSING HOUSE SESSIONS

The Leader of the Majority Party, Hon. Kimani Ichung’wah, has issued a warning to House Committees’ Chairpersons and Vice-Chairpersons, stating that they could be removed from their positions if they continue to skip House sittings where critical communication is made.

Hon. Ichung’wah expressed concern that chairpersons of Committees are often absent from the House when their reports were being debated.

Members of the National Assembly Committee on Agriculture and Livestock  have been conducting public participation on the Sugar Bill 2022, which seeks to address issues affecting the sugar industry. As part of their efforts, the Committee met with stakeholders in the sector, including Transmara Sugar Company and cane farmers' in Transmara, Narok County.

In a session chaired by Hon. Dr.John Mutunga lawmakers' met with Mr. Frederick North Coombes, the Managing Director.
