COMMITTEE REVIEWS DEFENCE MINISTRY 2021/2022 ANNUAL PERFORMANCE REPORT

The National Assembly Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relations Committee has this morning reviewed the Ministry of Defence's 2021/2022  Annual Performance Report.

The Committee Chaired by Hon. Nelson Koech (Belgut) undertook this assignment in line with Article 153 (4) (b) of the Constitution and Section 10 (h) of the Kenya Defence Forces Act no. 25 of 2012.

JLAC HOLDS PUBLIC HEARINGS ON THE STATUTE LAW MISCELLANEOUS AMENDMENTS

The Justice and Legal Affairs Committee Chaired by Hon. George Gitonga Murugara (Tharaka) held public hearings with different stakeholders to consider the Statute Law (Miscellaneous) (Amendment) Bill, 2022. The Bill seeks to amend various provisions of the Statute Law including those in 18 Statuses under the purview of the Committee.

TRANSPORT COMMITTEE HOLDS FAMILIARIZATION RETREAT WITH MINISTRY

The National Assembly Departmental Committee on Transport and Infrastructure held a familiarization retreat with State Departments under it's oversight preview.

The Committee Chaired by Hon. George Kariuki (Ndia) met Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure officials to deliberate on, among other issues, the mandate of key State Departments, their policy programmes and budget performance.

Hon. Kariuki said that the Committee will be particularly interested on legislative gaps and suggested likely interventions to fix the same.

NG-CDF COMMITTEE INSPECTS PROJECTS IN EMBU COUNTY

The National Assembly's Select Committee on National Government-Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) this weekend conducted inspection visits in Runyenjes Constituency, Embu County. The Committee, led by the Chairperson, Hon. Musa Sirma (Eldama Ravine) was hosted by the area MP, Hon. Erick Muchangi (Runyenjes).

ENERGY COMMITTEE PROBES MINISTRY ON THE GOVERNMENT-TO-GOVERNMENT FUEL IMPORTATION DEAL

The National Assembly Departmental Committee on Energy Chaired by Hon. (Eng). Vincent Musyoka held a meeting with the Cabinet Secretary and other senior officials of the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum to deliberate on a policy change regarding the importation of petroleum products. The proposed changes will convert the process from the current Open Tender System (OTS) to Government-to-Government arrangement. 

NATIONAL ASSEMBLY AGRICULTURE COMMITTEE REVIEWS PROPOSED COMMODITIES FUND BILL EXPECTED TO BOOST FARMER FINANCING

Farmers are expected to benefit from enhanced financing if a proposed legislation is approved by the National Assembly.

Legislators reviewed the draft Commodities Fund Bill which seeks to establish the Commodities Fund to provide better financing options for farmers and promote the development of agricultural commodities.

In a meeting chaired by Hon. Dr. John Mutunga, Members of the Committee on Agriculture and Livestock interacted with the Board of Trustees and Management of the Commodities Fund, led by Mr. Duke Mainga, to discuss the proposed Commodities Fund Bill.
