The Trade, Industry and Cooperatives Committee chaired by Hon. James Gakuya (Embakasi North), conducted a visit to the New Kenya Cooperative Creameries (KCC) plants in Kitale and Eldoret.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mr. Nixon Sigei, took Members on a comprehensive tour of the upgraded facilities, where they were briefed on the positive impact of modernization measures on production and operations.Β

The main focus of the visit was to assess the profitability of the modernization project and its implications for Kenya's dairy farming.Β

Members and KCC management deliberated on the Industry's commitment to finding sustainable solutions for the dairy farming sector while bolstering the country's economy.

New KCC CEO revealed that they have devised a strategic plan to export dairy products to the international market. He also assured the Legislators of KCC's unwavering dedication to the welfare of local farmers and the nation's economy. To that end, KCC has invested in processing powdered milk, providing a buffer during times of drought and addressing the issue of oversupply and wastage.

The Committee later met with local farmers to listen to them and address their concerns. The farmers praised the positive impact KCC has had on their livelihoods in recent years. They expressed gratitude for KCC's leadership and urged the Members to continue implementing progressive policies to support the dairy farming industry.

The Members encouraged New KCC management to maintain their focus on improving the lives of local farmers. The engagement also explored potential industry partnerships and viable business policies to promote further development in the sector.
