Members Parliament drawn from five Committees of the National Assembly,Β  including Administration and Internal Affairs; Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relations; Lands;Β Justice and Legal Affairs and National Cohesion and Equal Opportunity and the Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA), held a consultative forum with the Independent Panel of Advisors (IPA), to assess the current Peacebuilding Architecture in Kenya.

IPA is an organization that provides advisory and strategic leadership to the Peacebuilding initiatives in the country, with an aim of providing recommendations and implementation mechanisms, to the Government, United Nations (UN) and Peacebuilding stakeholders.

While addressing the forum, the Chairperson of National Cohesion and Equal Opportunity Committee Hon. Yussuf Haji (Mandera West), noted that Kenya is not short of policies or laws governing peacebuilding, but the implementation of the laws needs to be intensified.

He called on all Kenyans to take it as a personal responsibility to spread peace.
β€œWe should plan to leave Kenya better than we found it. It is not the responsibility of the Government or the relevant Committees but our own responsibility,” said Hon. Haji.

Making her contribution,Β  Hon. Martha Wangari (Gilgil)Β  who is a Member of theΒ  Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relations Committee, noted that Kenya has robust institutions dealing with peacebuilding but there is need to engage the public in devolution strategies, for them to feel accountable in controlling their resources which will in turn help inΒ peacekeeping. She also called for further engagement of the media and civil societies to help push this agenda.

Hon. Dekow Barrow (Garissa Town) who is a Member of the Pastoralists Parliamentary Group with a membership of 105 Members mainly from Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL), told the forum that the key issues the caucus is grappling with is border conflicts and security challenges, and welcomed the initiative of the National Security Group, in their quest to build peace across Kenya.
