Kirinyaga County Senator James Murango is seeking a Statement from the Standing Commmittee on Lands, Environment and Natural Resources regarding the expansion and improvement of irrigation infrastructure at Kibirigwi Irrigation Farmers' Cooperative Society LImited (KIFCO) Project in Kirinyaga County.

In his Statement, the Senator wants the Committee to;

Confirm whether there are plans to expand and improve the irrigation infrastructure for the Scheme, considering the increased membership from 277 to 1000 members without a corresponding expansion, undermining its optimal performance;

Indicate whether there are any plans by the Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation to establish an independent water supply for Kibingoti and Kibirigwi Urban Centres which currently depend on the KIFCO for their water needs; and

Explain any measures, including budgetary allocation, that the National Government has put in place to address the infrastructural challenges in terms of access to water and good roads faced by farmers and other water users in the said Project.
