The National Assembly is set to debate the Report of the Medium Term Debt Management Strategy that will be tabled by the Public Debt and Privatization Committee this week
The Public Debt and Privatization Committee has proposed several policy and financial resolutions to address concerns about rising domestic interest rates, public borrowing projections, and adherence to debt limits.
This morning, the Speaker of the Senate, Rt Hon Amason Jeffah Kingi, joined His Excellency Dr William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya; Speaker of the National Assembly Rt Hon (Dr) Moses Wetang’ula; and other leaders at State House where the President signed into law, the County Governments Additional Allocations Bill (National Assembly Bill No. 23 of 2023). The new law provides for additional allocations to county governments for the Financial Year 2023/2024.
𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝟰, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯
The National Assembly undertook an effective and constitutionally compliant public participation on the Affordable Housing Bill, 2023, the High Court has ruled.
This verdict was delivered by Justice Mwanaisha Saida Shariff sitting at the High Court in Kisumu, in a petition where one Mr. Lawrence Omule Apiyo had sued the National Assembly
alongside the office of the Attorney General and the Cabinet Secretary for Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Settlement regarding public participation on the Bill.

The Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly, Mrs. Serah Kioko, has called on the media to strive to disseminate information that is factual, evidence based and in a manner that is well understood by a majority of the public.
Mrs. Kioko further called on the Journalists to delve into the less-covered Parliamentary business, but which is of immense public interest, in a bid to sensitize the public on the output of Parliamentary proceedings, while creating an interest in them to participate in the legislative business.
Senate Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Committee, under the leadership of Kirinyaga County Senator James Kamau Murango, MP, has kicked of its three day public participation to deliberate on the legislative proposal on the Sugar Bill, 2022, (National Assembly Bill No. 34).

Energy Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir has assured the Senate that the victims of the recent gas explosion in Embakasi, Nairobi, will receive compensation.
The CS told Members of Energy Committee that the matter of compensation of the victims is under consideration but cautioned that the matter could be delayed because disaster management is not under is docket.
The Senate Committee on Information, Communication and Technology has urged county governments to integrate their revenue collection and management systems to be compatible with the national Government’s revenue management system.
This comes after the Controller of Budget (Dr.) Margaret Nyakang’o informed the Senators that many counties have developed customized revenue management systems through private developers, which aren’t based on the Standard Charts of Accounts and aren’t compatible with the Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS).
