Members of the National Assembly Committee on Communication Information and Innovation have urged the State Departments under the Committee's purview to plan on maximization of the projected budget allocation as per the 2026 Budget Policy Statement (BPS).

This follows the tight fiscal constraints underpinning the 2026 BPS vis-a-vis the sectors Budget requirements.

The Liaison Committee has paid a glowing tribute to Ms. Florence Abonyo, the Director of Audit, Appropriations, and General Purpose Committees, as she prepares to exit the parliamentary service.

The Committee, which comprises Chairpersons from the 44 Committees of the National Assembly and is chaired by Deputy Speaker Hon. Members of the National Assembly have rallied behind the Teachers Service Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2024, sponsored by Hon. Abdul Haro that seeks to dignify the teaching profession and safeguard teachers from exploitation in acting positions.

The Bill, which seeks to amend the Teachers Service Commission Act No. 20 of 2012, proposes to formalize various allowances payable to teachers and introduce structured guidelines on acting appointments within the Commission.

The Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury, John Mbadi, has defended the fiscal and macroeconomic underpinnings of the proposed Field Development Plan (FDP) for Blocks T6 and T7, assuring Parliament that the project will not create any explicit or implicit public debt obligations for Kenya.

The National Assembly on Tuesday, February 17, 2026 discussed the deteriorating state of River Athi, as Members debated the Public Petition No. 11 of 2022 seeking urgent intervention over industrial and domestic pollution choking the lifeline of thousands of Kenyans.

In a Report by the Public Petitions Committee, the Committee recommended a raft of far-reaching measures to hold polluters accountable and restore the river’s ecosystem, citing years of neglect, weak enforcement, and coordination lapses among state agencies.

Public hearings on Sessional Paper No. 3 of 2025 on the proposed offloading of 15 per cent of government’s stake in Safaricom PLC have wound up today with forums conducted in Kwale and Kilifi Counties.

The hearings spearheaded by the Departmental Committee on Finance and National Planning, jointly with the Select Committee on Public Debt and Privatization saw lawmakers traverse 30 counties to collate viewpoints on the matter.

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) is pursuing Sh23.1 billion in taxes arising from the 2025 sale of Tullow Oil’s Kenyan business to Auron Energy E&P Limited, an affiliate of Gulf Energy Ltd.

 

Appearing before the Joint Committee of Parliament on February 12, 2025, KRA officials said the assessment followed a comprehensive tax audit covering the period between 2020 and 2025.

 

“In 2025, the Authority carried out a tax audit on the taxpayer for the period 2020 to 2025 and raised taxes amounting to Sh23,124,656,330,” KRA told MPs.
