Speaker of the National Assembly, Rt. (Dr.) Hon. Moses Wetang’ula on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 delivered a message from the President on President of the nomination of 10 persons for appointment as Cabinet Secretaries.

Hon. Wetang’ula said, the President, in exercising powers conferred on him by Articles 152(2) of the Constitution, as read together with sections 3 and 5 of the Public Appointments (Parliamentary Approval) Act, 2011, had forwarded the first list of appointees for consideration by Parliament.

The Departmental Committee on Education chaired by Hon. Julius Melly (Tinderet) on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 met with the Chief  Executive Officer (CEO), Teachers Service Commission (TSC), Mrs. Nancy Macharia to consider the 2024/25 Supplementary Estimates 1.

During the meeting Members raised concerns about the proposed Kshs.10.3 billion reduction in the budget for the TSC in the 2024/25 budget.

The Committee on Blue Economy, Water and Irrigation led by the Chairperson, Hon. Kangogo Bowen (Marakwet East), met with officials from the State Department for Blue Economy and Fisheries, State Department of Irrigation and State Department of Water and Sanitation,  over the Supplementary Estimates 1 for the Financial Year 2024/25.

The Senate Committee on Devolution and Intergovernmental Relations, chaired by Senator Mohamed Abass, held an engagement today with the Council of Governors (COG), Intergovernmental Relations Technical Committee (IGRTC), County Assemblies Forum (CAF) and the State Department for Devolution. The focus was on the Intergovernmental Relations (Amendment) Bill 2024 (Senate Bill No. 12 of 2024).

The fourth Senate Mashinani will be held in Busia County in September 2024, following a resolution passed by Senators through a Motion tabled by Majority Leader Sen. Aaron Cheruiyot.

 

The Senate has resolved to hold its Plenary and Committee sittings in Busia County from September 23 to 27, 2024, in accordance with Article 126 (1) of the Constitution.

The Senators have urged President William Ruto to address various issues raised by Kenyans, particularly by the Gen Z population.

 

In a motion sponsored by Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot, the Senators highlighted several pressing challenges requiring urgent action from President Ruto.

 

While presenting the motion, Sen. Cheruiyot urged the Senate to call on the National Assembly to swiftly consider the presidential memorandum as outlined in Article 115(2)(a).
