TUESDAY, 1^st December – The Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (KEMSA) has confirmed that it stands to incur a minimum loss of KES 2bn, as prices of COVID-19 products and technologies regularize in the free market.

MONDAY, 30^th NOVEMBER – The Senate Standing Committee on Health has this morning ordered the Managing Director of Briema Grains Store Limited to present by close of business Tuesday 1^st December all documentation relating to communication made between itself and KEMSA regarding the procurement of supplies in response to the Covid-19 Pandemic.<

National Assembly Eulogises Hon. Justus Murunga; urges County Governments to enhance county health facilities’ capacity to handle emergencies

President Uhuru Kenyatta this afternoon delivered his Seventh State of the Nation Address with a strong urge to political leaders in the legislature and across the country not to let their guard down in the fight against Covid-19.

The Senate, which is a bastion of tradition by merit of being a House of Parliament that follows Commonwealth customs and practices, paved way for sharp departure, Tuesday after Speaker Kenneth Lusaka ruled in favour of donning cultural attire.

The Speaker of the Senate, Rt Hon Kenneth Lusaka has termed the High Court Judgment on Constitutional Petition 284 of 2019 as a “landmark ruling” that not only reaffirms constitutionalism and the rule of law in Kenya, but also the role of the Senate in devolution.
Addressing the House by way of Communication from the Chair after a three-week recess, Speaker Lusaka noted that the judgment by the three-judge bench has far-reaching implications on the legislative business of the Senate.

The National Assembly will appeal the recent court ruling ​which​ nullified 23 Acts passed by the House without referring them to the Senate.

This decision by the House Business Committee was relayed to the House this afternoon by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Justin Muturi through a Communication. 

President to deliver State of the Nation Address in Parliament on Thursday, 12^th November, 2020

President Uhuru Kenyatta is scheduled to deliver his State of the Nation Address in a Joint-Sitting of Parliament next week.

The National Assembly’s Departmental Committee on Communication Information and Innovation chaired by Hon. William Kisang has today vetted a Data Commissioner nominee Ms. Immaculate Kassait.

If approved, this will be the first ever data office in Kenya. Ms. Immaculate Kassait was nominated by His Excellency the President in accordance with the provisions of Section 6 (4) of the Data protection Act, 2019.

The Departmental Committee on Health has raised a red flag over the high level of pesticide residues of fruits and vegetables, leading to increased prevalence of non-communicable diseases such as cancer, acute and respiratory diseases, mental, behavioural and neurological disorders, as well as degradation of the environment.

National Assembly proceeds on a short recess; to resume on 3^rd November

Members of the National Assembly, Thursday 15^th October embarked on a short recess, but not before concluding crucial business that was under their consideration. Sittings are expected to resume on 3^rd November after the two-week recess which is in accordance with the House calendar.

Speaker directs Committees to conclude reports on draft legislations by end month

The Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Justin Muturi has directed all Departmental Committees to consider all legislative proposals before them, whose 21 days have expired, and submit their recommendations to him by 3^rd November when the House resumes from a 2-week recess.
