The Senate Standing Committee on Devolution and Intergovernmental Relations held a session with the Governor of Kiambu County earlier today to deliberate on the municipality of Thika’s application for elevation to city status. 

During the session, Governor Kimani Wamatangi outlined the County’s justification for the application, emphasizing Thika’s financial viability, governance structures, and the capacity to deliver services required of a city.

The Senate has annulled the Environmental Management and Co-ordination (Strategic and Integrated Environmental Assessments and Environmental Audits) (No. 2) Regulations, 2025, published under Legal Notice No. 71 of 2025 citing procedural shortcomings and failure to meet statutory thresholds.

Cabinet Secretary for Cooperatives and MSMEs, Hon. Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya, appeared before the Senate to respond to inquiries posed by Senator Prof. Margaret Kamar regarding the ongoing liquidation process of the Moi University Savings and Credit Society (MUSCO).
