Senate Speaker Amason Kingi has issued a stern warning to County Governors who evade parliamentary summons, declaring that the Senate will not tolerate attempts to undermine its constitutional oversight authority.

Speaking at the Assessment and Planning Retreat, the Clerk of the Senate, Mr. Jeremiah Nyegenye, CBS, underscored the importance of strategic foresight as the 13th Parliament enters its penultimate session. Addressing the full membership of the Senate, the Clerk emphasized that the transition to the Fifth Session is a pivotal moment for legislative consolidation.

Members of Parliament have pressed the Government to clarify measures taken to address the worsening drought situation in arid and semi-arid lands (ASALs), even as the State said over 3.3 million people are facing food insecurity across Kenya.

Members of the National Assembly have approved Canon (Dr.) Ida Betty Odinga, for appointment as Kenya’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), headquartered in Nairobi.

In its report, the Departmental Committee on Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relations, chaired by Hon. Nelson Koech found Dr. Odinga suitable for the position, citing her leadership experience, commitment to environmental advocacy, and proven integrity.

The Committee on Blue Economy, Water & Irrigation has directed the Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation to shelve the initiation of new projects and instead focus on completing stalled and ongoing projects.

Speaking during the 2026 Budget Policy Statement (BPS) meeting, the Committee Chairperson, Hon. Kangogo Bowen (Marakwet East) emphasized that the new projects won't see the light of the day in the 2026 BPS.

The National Assembly has received a message from the President nominating Mr. Kosiom Frank ole Kibelekenya for appointment as Ambassador to Copenhagen, Kingdom of Denmark.

In a communication delivered to the House, the Speaker announced that the nomination was made pursuant to Article 132(2)(e) of the Constitution of Kenya, read together with Sections 20(2) and 22(2)(a) of the Foreign Service Act (Cap. 185E).
