National Assembly Committees challenged to regularly monitor spending by government agencies to enhance prudent use of public resources

The Chairpersons of Committees have been challenged to regularly monitor disbursements and spending by Ministries to ensure there is value for money, thus ward off graft.

Speaking during the final day of the National Assembly Leadership Retreat at Ole Sereni Hotel Nairobi, the Chairperson of the Budget and Appropriations Committee, Hon. Kanini Kega  observed that regular reports from line ministries and government agencies on how they are spending monies disbursed to them would help avert corruption and ensure prudent use of public resources.

Speaker Muturi hosts CAF; pledges House support towards quest for the enhancement of County Assemblies’ Autonomy

The Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon.Justin Muturi has pledged the support of the National Assembly towards enhancing the autonomy of the County Assemblies through legislation.

Speaking when he met the leadership of the County Assemblies' Forum (CAF)led by the Chair, Hon. Wahome Ndegwa, Speaker Muturi underscored the role of independence of County Assemblies in the promotion of their effectiveness in oversighting the County Governments,and in ultimately strengthening devolution in Kenya.

Senate Special Committee on Impeachment Ends Hearings, to Table Report Friday

The Special Committee on the Proposed Removal from Office of the Governor of Kirinyaga County chaired by Sen Cleophas Malala ended its two-day hearing on Wednesday evening having heard from three witnesses presented by the Governor’s Counsel and Closing Arguments from both sides.

 

The conclusion of hearings sets the stage for preparation of the Special Report and its tabling at a Special Sitting of the Senate which has been appointed to be Friday 26th June, through Gazette Notice by the Speaker of the Senate, Rt Hon Kenneth Lusaka.

 

Governor Waiguru Hearing at the Senate Kicks Off

The Special Committee on the Removal from Office, by impeachment, of the Governor of Kirinyaga County chaired by Sen Cleophas Malalah, Tuesday began hearings to make a determination on the charges leveled against her by the County Assembly of Kirinyaga.

 

Sen Cleophas Malalah elected to Chair Special Committee to consider charges against Kirinyaga Governor

Sen Cleophas Malalah has today (Wednesday, 17 June) been unanimously elected to Chair the Special Committee established through a resolution of the Senate to consider the proposed removal from office, by impeachment, of the Governor of Kirinyaga County.

 

The midmorning meeting also saw Sen Abshiro Halake elected to deputize the Chair who also serves as Deputy Minority Leader. Sen Halake garnered five votes against Sen Mwangi Githiomi’s four.

 

COVID 19: Mixed Bag for Realization of UHC

Reduction of the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) allocation by KES 11.3billion through the Supplementary (COVID-19) Estimates no. 2 for the FY 2019/2020 had cast doubt on the potential success of the programme.

KRA Pleased With Constituency/County Offices on Tax Compliance

The Clerk of the National Assembly, Mr. Michael Sialai held a second consultative meeting with the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) at Parliament buildings. The first one having been held on 29th October, 2018.

The KRA Officers paid Mr. Sialai a courtesy call in his office at Parliament buildings to deliberate on the best way to enhance service delivery through timely remittance of tax.
