The Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury, John Mbadi, has defended the fiscal and macroeconomic underpinnings of the proposed Field Development Plan (FDP) for Blocks T6 and T7, assuring Parliament that the project will not create any explicit or implicit public debt obligations for Kenya.

The National Assembly on Tuesday, February 17, 2026 discussed the deteriorating state of River Athi, as Members debated the Public Petition No. 11 of 2022 seeking urgent intervention over industrial and domestic pollution choking the lifeline of thousands of Kenyans.

In a Report by the Public Petitions Committee, the Committee recommended a raft of far-reaching measures to hold polluters accountable and restore the river’s ecosystem, citing years of neglect, weak enforcement, and coordination lapses among state agencies.

The Senate is inviting all citizens to submit their views on the 2026 Budget Policy Statement and the 2026 Medium-Term Debt Management Strategy that will shape our economy in the next Financial Year.

Public hearings on Sessional Paper No. 3 of 2025 on the proposed offloading of 15 per cent of government’s stake in Safaricom PLC have wound up today with forums conducted in Kwale and Kilifi Counties.

The hearings spearheaded by the Departmental Committee on Finance and National Planning, jointly with the Select Committee on Public Debt and Privatization saw lawmakers traverse 30 counties to collate viewpoints on the matter.
