5th Ordinary Session of the Plenary Assembly of the FP-ICGLR Comes to Nairobi, Kenya
The 5th Ordinary Session of the Plenary Assembly of the FP-ICGLR which runs from 20th to 22ndJanuary at Laico Regency, Kenya, will present an opportunity for 12 Member States of the Great Lakes Region to deliberate three key challenges facing the region.
Top on the agenda of the Plenary Assembly will be the political and security situation in the Great Lakes Region with particular focus on Central African Republic, South Sudan, DR Congo, and Sudan.
Also expected to be laid on the table of the Plenary Assembly is the role of Parliaments of Member States of the ICGLR in the fight against the illegal exploitation of natural resources in the Great Lakes region and the implementation of related international and regional legal instruments.
The third challenge to be deliberated at the conference is the spiralling youth unemployment across the Great Lakes Region.
The International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) is an inter-governmental organization of the countries in the African Great Lakes Region. Its establishment was based on the recognition that political instability and conflicts in these countries have a considerable regional dimension and thus require a concerted effort in order to promote sustainable peace and development.
