National Assembly during its morning special sitting convened by Speaker Justin Muturi has passed amendments to the Elections Law among them the requirement for those vying for MP or MCA to have degrees will apply during the 2022 elections. Also passed is a new Clause 4A that empowers the IEBC to revert to manual system in the event of technical failure during the coming general elections. The House also amended the Elections Campaign Financing Act, 2013 to provide for the reduction period by which persons ought to have opened mandatory campaign financing bank accounts and registered with the commission for the purpose of financing their campaigns. Persons contesting for positions only become candidates after submission of party primaries by parties to the IEBC which is 2 months (60 days) to elections and it was amended as such as opposed to the eight months currently in the Act.
