Rwanda High Commissioner calls on Speaker Lusaka
The Speaker of the Senate, Rt Hon Kenneth Lusaka today met Rwanda High Commissioner to Kenya Amb Dr. Richard Masozera who called on him at Parliament Buildings.
At the meeting, Amb Masozera informed the Senate Speaker that the Government of the Republic of Rwanda plans to hold an international conference in Nairobi to commemorate 25 years since the 1994 Genocide.
“We have been having annual commemorations at the UN Complex in Gigiri but we feel that 25 is symbolic as it is significant and will therefore host an international conference targeting the youth— to reflect on what happened and ensure that such incidents never recur,” said Amb Masozera.
While welcoming the plans for the conference, Speaker Lusaka agreed that it shall be of critical importance to remind the world but particularly to transmit values to youth to prevent such escalations and unfortunate incidents.
“The conference shall serve as a very important reminder to the world but most importantly, it shall be a forum to transmit lessons learnt from that unfortunate experience to youth who were not born,” said the Senate Speaker.
He also congratulated Rwanda for conducting peaceful parliamentary elections in September last year and the ascension of HE President Paul Kagame to the chairmanship of the East African Community (EAC).
